Mobility Find THE right driving posture the first time (or soon after)
March 17, 2015
We all have driving habits, and they die hard. After all, who doesn't put their hand on the gear lever and rest their elbow on the window while driving? Who hasn't leaned back in their seat like they were on the couch? And last of all, who really thinks about their driving posture all the time?

Your goal : to strain your muscles as little as possible during your trip

You should aim to strain your muscles as little as possible during your trip.Poor posture will tend to tire us out, and there are many other places to get a work-out, like the gym if you're motivated.

  1. Sit in such a way that only your feet and hands are doing the work.
Be careful! If you're too high up on your seat, you'll strain your back and shoulders.
  2. Your arms should be bent at a 45° angle (and no more)
  3. Put your hands at 9:15

  4. A tip: Rotate the wheel a quarter-turn; if your arms in this position are bent at 45° you're good, otherwise adjust the distance and/or incline of the seat.

  5. Your legs must be supported by your seat (to the extent that you can adjust its incline)
  6. Your elbows must be at armrest height (not on the window) so that you can move them during the long trip in order to avoid straining your shoulders and arms.
  7. Smile, and that's all! Simple…right?

If you apply this checklist, you'll see a real improvement in how tired you get at the wheel. The best solution if you feel really tired is still to stop for a coffee break or a nap.

Habits are what they are, but with a bit of willpower, they can always be overcome in the end.

With the right driving posture, you'll be ready for a new segment in Game of Roads!!
