Mobility Types of plugs for electric vehicles: what you need to know
April 9, 2021 Car
When you say electric car or rechargeable hybrid, it implies recharging the battery. There are currently different types of plugs fitted to cars, depending on the geographical origin of the vehicle, but also plugs for recharging infrastructures. Let's take a look at the different types of available plugs.

Plugs on the car side

On the car side, there are different types of plugs:

  • type 1 plug ;
  • type 2 plug; - Chademo plug
  • Chademo plug;
  • combo plug or CCS (Combined Charging System).

Depending on the type of plug, the charging speed can be more or less rapid.

It should be noted that all electric cars have a cable that allows the car to be charged using a standard domestic plug. However, most manufacturers recommend the use of a charging point (private or public), for reasons of safety and speed of charge.

The plugs on the infrastructure side

On the infrastructure side, i.e. at home or at charging stations, there are two main types of plugs:

  • the classic domestic socket ;
  • a type 2 or CEE plug found on charging stations or charging stations installed at home.

Recharging from a charging station will be safer and faster than recharging from a standard domestic plug.
