A work-related journey is considered to be a "task" which the employee will carry out during his working time on the orders of his employer outside his workplace:
- at client meetings
- participating in external meetings, etc.
In order to carry out these tasks, employees may have to use their own personal cars … but if an accident occurs during one of these journeys, the employee does not always have the appropriate cover. There are two ways of ensuring that the employee's personal vehicle is insured during work-related travel:
- ensure that the employee has full cover under their private car insurance, which covers damage incurred while using their vehicle for business purposes;
- take out "Casco Work-related" insurance for the benefit of its employees.
* « Casco Voyages de service »
This is a specific policy which covers damage caused to an employee's own car while travelling on the orders and in the service of his employer. This insurance is taken out by the company for its employees.
If an employee's car is damaged during the course of his journey, its owner's car insurance will not always cover this damage. The insurance taken out by the company will therefore cover the cost of repairs. Also, the employee will not be required to reimburse his private insurer for any excess for material damage, since the cover will be taken out by his employer, via the "Casco Work-related Travel" policy.
And in the event of an at-fault accident, the employee's no-claims bonus will be adversely affected. The employer can request an extension of cover to the costs of this loss of no-claims bonus.
In order to be covered in the event of an accident on a work-related journey at the request of his employer, the employee must inform his private insurer if his policy does not provide cover for the work-related use of his car. In order to avoid the need for the employee repeatedly to make these arrangements with his insurer, the purchase of "Casco Business Travel" insurance will automatically cover damage to his vehicle.
The "CASCO Business Travel" insurance policy can be taken out with any car insurance company.
When travelling on business, it is advisable for the employee to have a written assignment order, which specifies the details of the assignment, including the place and date, as well as the purpose of the task. This work order can later be used as evidence to justify the employee's presence on the road at the time of any eventual claim.
"Without a work order, the employee will not be covered in the event of an accident. This document must be issued by the employee's superior, and there must be a hierarchical link between the person issuing the work order and the employee."
The policy covers the personal vehicles of the company's employees but only while they are travelling on the employer's orders and in the employer's service.
The risks covered are:
- Physical damage
- Fire
- Wind-screen breakage
- Theft
- Collision with animals
- Natural hazards
If your employees regularly go on business assignments with their own cars, make sure they are well protected when they travel. Our "Casco Business Travel" insurance provides insurance for your employee and covers material damage.
